Organize

Ok, most people who know me know that I am very disorganzied. Despite my attempts to rectify that, things always dissolve into a mess. This renders me forgetful, scatterbrained, and absent minded. There are a few cool mac tools I've run across that help with this.

First up, for games, movies, books, and music there is Delicious Library. Using this, you can easily keep a running tally of what things you have, as well as if anyone is borrowing it. The latter feature is especially handy, because sometimes when people borrow things they have it for months at a time, and then occaisionally forget they got it from you. This way, you know exactly who has your stuff so you don't forget it. Also, if you have a very large collection of stuff, its sometimes nice to have a list of stuff to quickly look through when getting more, so you don't duplicate things. Plus, you can export the list to a text file so you can send it to others, so they know what you already have. Not to mention nifty features like recommendations on similar things, barcode scanner support, etc. All in all, a really cool tool, although a bit price heavy at $40.

Next on the list is a great, free, tool for note taking called Sidenote. Basically, side note is a little app that sits off to the side of your monitor, out of sight, and when you mouse up to the edge, out pops side note, letting you jot down different notes. You can also use color codes to help show importance on the notes. Personally, I like it better than the built in stickies app, because it doesnt always have to be on top (although you can pin it out). Another nice feature is that its not on the dock, so doesn't clutter things up.

Another good app for note scribbling is Desktastic. Desktastic lets you draw, scribble notes, etc on top the desktop or ontop of other programs. Really kick ass for those with wacoms. I have a couple complaints over Desktastic though. First one is, If you have it set "Above the Icons" you can't interact with the desktop unless you set desktastic to hide, but if you set it below the icons, you cant draw on the desktop but rather ontop of all the other programs. My second complaint is that it has an icon on the dock. To me, it would be perfect, if I could hit the expose button to hide all windows, start drawing on the desktop and still interact with the icons, and not have it on the dock. Even if I had to still press the draw button (manditory if you have it set under the icons) before I could draw, but be able to work with it while using expose, I'd be much happier. Still, its $12.95, which is cheap. This is also made by the same company who does Transmit, and Stattoo, two other cool apps.

Lifehacker also has for free its todo.txt series and script which is great, especially for those who love the commandline.

A few different things have happened in the last week or so since I last posted.

The girl who was in possession of the stolen cellphone I mentioned earlier, was arrested and the rightful owner got the phone back. Yay! Finally, something good happens and crooks weren't let free.

Louisana Governor signed a bill into law, prohibiting minors from buying rated M games (which in a way I have no problems with), but also had some verbage that would basically let a judge decide if something was too racy or inappropriate, and then have the game pulled from the shelves. That part is what pisses me off, especially when you concider how one sided the arguement some of the anti game lawyers (namely Jack Thompson) shows things and how uninformed the judges and legislators are. I was listening to LAGER and they were talking about Postal 2, and commenting on how its one of the most violent and bad games ever, however nearly everything bad in the game is the result of the person playing the game. Yes, you can shove a gun barrel up a cat's ass, shoot some muslims, and piss on their corpses on the way to get milk at the store, or you can just walk calmly to the store and get the milk and walk back. Most of the games that Thompson and his lackeys hate are of that nature. Just because something is possible in a game doesnt mean you need to do it, or that its required, however most of the government types won't see or understand that. Right now the ESA and other groups are contesting it, and a judge is trying to get it stricken down.

I've also been on a fairly big Doctor Who kick. Started watching some episodes of the new series, and its pretty good. Definitely diggin' it. Sucked up quite a bit of bandwidth getting the episodes though. If you can see the new Who, I recommend it.

Also, have been getting ebooks through stuff like Project Gutenberg, which is cool. Free books is always a good thing. Next up gonna see about a good ebook reader for my PDA, since I am accumulating quite a library now. Between my manuals, blueprints, books, etc I have like 3 gigs of stuff to read over.

The cars around here have been shooting craps right and left, which hasn't been pleasant. Right now, out of all the cars, only the cougar and suburban are running properly. Not good.

You know how sometimes, you think of really wild and crazy things? Today, I came up with Vaginoids, which is basically a Voltron style show, with some humor, and instead of lions, the ships are shaped like sex toys (primarily, an atomically correct female torso). Oh well, atleast I didn't make a Bat-strapon this time. I might try and do a small flash animation and put it up.

Speaking of such, ebaumsworld (no, I wont link to the fuckers), ripped off more shit from Albino Black Sheep. This time around, it is the animator vs animation flash cartoon. The creator specifically said he didn't want ebaums to post it, and then tried to include preventative measures to make sure that didn't happen, but ebaums decompiled it, removed some of the credits the cartoon had (to ABS), added in an ad (that they, and not the creator, get paid for when someone clicks), and mucked with the prevention code. What a giant jackass, in a way makes it disheartening, and drains the will to create things, out of fear people will steal it. And those familiar with ebaums, probably know that these tactics are common for them, as they steal other's work quite frequently, plus steal bandwidth and aid Denial of Service attacks on the competition. Makes me sick.

Well, thats all for now.

Ugh

Its been crazy here. Yesterday, after rain, the carshow my club puts on was cancelled, despite the rain or shine status of the show. Was kinda sucky, since lots of people were upset, because like an hour later the weather cleared up for the rest of the day. I was around the outlet mall till later on, and kept had people asking why the show wasn't going on.

Leaving the outlet mall, went and saw Cars. Great movie, which had tons of detail. You can definitely tell that its done by people who truely love cars, due to the immense amount of small things that most non-car people would never know of, let alone think to include. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it greatly. Also, make sure you watch the credits, and stay for the scene following them.

Last night, saw the original Dr Dolittle, and promptly fell asleep following that. Woke up around 5am, still at the computer. Start to put things away, to notice that my glasses were knocked off and the frames were bent up. Spent the next half hour getting the frames back in shape, before heading back to bed. Then spent all day with a headache and hurting eyes because apparently I didnt get things 100% back, and so my eyes were adjusting to the glasses again. Top that with the spider bite and possible broken finger I both recieved in my sleep this weekend, and I just felt like crap.

Working on a painting, threw up the really rough part I have so far. Not alot, but hope to work on it more this week.

Every now and again you hear stories of people trying to screw others, and the wronged, using the power of the internet, get revenge. A few months ago there was a similar situation involving truck parts (Charlie Wenzel), the infamous p-p-p-powerbook!, etc.

The latest in this line is where someone stole a cellphone, and refused to return it. Right afterwards, one of the first things the wronged (or rather her friend), was setup a webpage and made sure the link makes the rounds. Viral marketing at its best takes over, and before long thousands of people are reading and following along. People have located and are staking out the thief, tons of harassment, etc. Its hilarious to me to see how quickly it spread, and the levels its escalated to. Hell, the guy has made 2 forums crash, and in less than a day used 5 gigs of bandwidth for a simple page. Just wild...
